Built for Success
Benefiting from $1.3 billion facilities investment
We’ve poured a lot of resources into the improvement of our campus during the last decade, renovating, expanding and building anew, part of a $1.3 billion investment in new construction. Recently, a new residence hall is opening this year, and a new performing arts center opened in 2015.
Two academic buildings on the National Register of Historic Places — Gearhart Hall and Vol Walker Hall — were also renovated with additions, one to create a home for our nationally prominent Honors College and a second to provide facilities for our top-ranked School of Architecture and Design.
Two new residence halls are slated to open for the fall 2019 semester. They will serve as a living and learning community for students in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, art, theatre, music and English. The complex includes amenities such as a recording studio, an art and maker studio, gallery spaces, dance studio and music practice rooms.
The Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center is the primary performance venue for the university’s musical groups, including the Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Campus Band, New Music Ensemble, University Symphony Orchestra, Schola Cantorum, Concert Choir, Inspirational Chorale, Women’s Choir, Percussion Ensemble, Pan Band, Jazz Band, and Opera. The center also provides space for guest artists and lecturers and for some theatrical performances. Located next to the Arkansas Union in the newly renovated historic Field House, this state-of-theart venue provides seating for 588 people. Visit music. uark.edu for a listing of performances.
We also invested in updates to the Arkansas Union, the hub of our student social life. The Union was recently named one of the 25 best student unions in the nation. Something — career fairs, international bazaars or cultural performances — is always happening in the International Lounge. Our student organizations and many of the centers that directly help students are there. The Arkansas Union also includes a ballroom, a theatre, a food court and conference rooms.
