Live, Learn and Lead
Live — All five UWM housing complexes are completely suite style, meaning two or three connected bedrooms share a private bathroom. While UWM houses more than 4,000 students annually, our facilities are divided into smaller wings, or houses, that make it easy to find friends and make lasting social connections. Our residence halls provide space for both your academic (computer labs, classrooms, study rooms) and social (movie theater, music practice rooms, game rooms) use.
Learn — UWM is home to more than 20 Living Learning Communities. These LLCs are smaller “communities within communities” that give students the chance to live on a floor with other students who share similar interests and/or career goals. Students in LLC programs generally have higher GPAs, higher graduation rates and report making friends faster and better than students who do not participate in LLCs. Lead — University Housing provides great options for students to develop their own sense of leadership. All residents are invited to participate in their building’s Community Council, where there are abundant opportunities for students of all communication and leadership styles. In addition, some residents may choose to run for a seat on the Student Housing Administrative Council, which is an advocacy and event-planning group. Finally, each year we induct 40 UWM students into the National Residence Hall Honorary society.
Meal Plans
Students who live in the residence halls are required to take part in the meal plan. UWM’s meal plan is set up with a debit-style account, where students pay for food items on an a la carte basis. This gives students the ultimate flexibility to customize their own nutritional plan.
Sandburg
Three “traditional” towers are the original residence halls, the newer East Tower opened in 2001. This 2,800-person complex is its own mini-city, with a movie theater, coffee shop, convenience store and late-night dining facility.
Cambridge Commons
Opened in 2010, Cambridge Commons houses 650 students, mostly in their first year. Here you’ll find a large court yard, private music practice rooms, refrigerators in every suite and a full kitchen lounge on every floor.
RiverView Hall
Opened in 2008, RiverView features first-year student housing in suites consisting of two double occupancy rooms. RiverView will debut a new movie theater and the RiverView Eatery in Fall 2019. Kitchen spaces on each floor allow students a space to prepare meals and gather as a community.
Purin Hall
A converted apartment building, Purin Hall is our most compact residence hall, with 50 residents, most of whom are upper-level students. The small community, plus hardwood floors, ceiling fans and kitchens in each suite, make it feel like home.
Kenilworth Square Apartments
Opened in 2006, Kenilworth Square houses 330 upper-level students. Previously a Ford Model T factory, the interior features high ceilings and loft-like architecture.
